Meet High Wycombe's Elite Osteopath
David Shah - M.Ost
General & Sports Osteopath
David Shah, Osteopath in High Wycombe
Hi, I'm David, and thanks for stopping by. I'm an Osteopath based in in High Wycombe Buckinghamshire, and I took a slightly unusual route to get here.
For 17 years I worked as a mechanical engineer. Over time I realised my real interest was in health and movement, so I made the leap, and I haven't looked back since. I trained in soft tissue therapy at the North London School of Sports Massage, then studied osteopathy at the University College of Osteopathy, where I graduated with Distinction. I'm registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC 12229).
Engineering taught me to look at the whole picture and work out why something's happening, not just where it hurts. I still think that way. Your first appointment starts with a proper chat. I want to hear what's been going on, how it's affecting your day, and what you'd love to get back to. Then I'll assess you thoroughly and explain what I've found in plain English before we start any treatment. Treatment is hands on. That means joint mobilisation, soft tissue and deep tissue work, trigger point work, myofascial release and dry needling where it's useful, plus a few exercises to do at home. I named the practice Kaizen after the Japanese idea of small, steady improvements, and that's how I like to work: one step at a time, at a pace that suits you. There's no pressure to book a block of sessions. If I think someone else could help you more, whether that's your GP, your dentist or someone else, I'll tell you.
I train at a local CrossFit box and run whenever I can, so I really do get how frustrating it is when a niggle starts getting in the way of a session, a PB or a race you've been building towards. I won't just tell you to stop. We'll look at your training together, I'll help you understand what's going on, and we'll work out what you can keep doing while we sort it. I've been lucky enough to work with Wycombe Wanderers FC, GB Softball, Tottenham Hotspur Women and currently with the Scotland Women's National Team. It's taught me a lot about how athletes train, recover and pick up injuries. Whether you're competing or just getting back into exercise, you'll get exactly the same care from me.
You don't need to be an athlete, most of the people I see aren't. They come in with a stiff back from long days at a desk, a neck that won't settle, or an ache that's been hanging around for months and is starting to wear them down. I also have a particular interest in jaw tension. It's something I see a lot, and it often goes hand in hand with a tight neck and a stressful few months.
When I'm not in clinic, you'll usually find me at the box, out on a run, or hunting down a strong americano & almond croissant (still my weakness). Good food comes a close second. I believe in balance, after all.
If you're not sure I'm the right person to see, just drop me a message on WhatsApp and we can have a chat first, no pressure at all. And if you're ready, you can book an Initial Consultation online. I'd love to meet you.
